Arnone turns Warriors' win into inside job

BOONSBORO - Once again, 6-foot senior center Brynn Arnone patrolled the paint for the Boonsboro girls basketball team.

Arnone had 20 points, 18 rebounds and six blocked shots to help the No. 3 Warriors beat Williamsport 59-30 on Tuesday in an MVAL Antietam game.

Even in the few times when the Wildcats were able to block Arnone's path, she was able to draw fouls and finished 8 of 9 from the foul line.

"I had a lot of good passes that went right to me," Arnone said. "That made it easier for me to get my baskets. They were boxing me out pretty good. I just had to work around the defense in order to get the offensive rebounds."

Arnone leads the Tri-State area with 14.4 rebounds per game.

"We worked a lot better on the defensive end of the floor, tonight," Arnone said. "We talked a lot on defense and that helped out. I don't think that we have played up to our potential yet."

Williamsport coach Chris Malott was impressed with Arnone.

"We couldn't stop her," Malott said. "She is unstoppable. She is the best player that I have ever seen in my five years of coaching. She is fun to watch."

Malott said the Wildcats need to eliminate their mistakes.

"We can't turn the ball over 36 times and expect to win," Malott said.

Emma Dalton scored nine of her 13 points in the fourth quarter and had six steals for Boonsboro (12-4, 6-0). Alison Griffith pulled down seven rebounds for the Warriors.

"Anytime that you can beat Williamsport by 29 points, it is a good win," Boonsboro coach Max Shaffer said. "They always come in with a good game. When we switched from a zone defense to a man-to-man defense, that was the key to the win. It helped when we pulled off our press, because they were beating us down the floor."

Kelly Beard had 11 points and five rebounds, while Kayla Ewing had nine points and five rebounds for Williamsport (6-9, 3-3).

Boonsboro led 14-12 at the end of the first quarter.

The Warriors outscored the Wildcats 13-1 during the first 5:50 of the second quarter to build a 27-13 lead.

But Williamsport chopped the deficit down to 32-27 with 2:37 remaining in the third quarter when Beard made two free throws.

The Warriors closed the game with a 27-3 run.
