CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Glen D. Smith, 86, of Charles Town, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, at his home.

Born Feb. 9, 1922, in Schenectady, N.Y., he was the son of the late Dr. David Glen Smith and Esther Denny Smith.

He was a 1942 graduate of Princeton University with degrees in engineering and architecture.

He was plant supervisor at Dawborn Brothers Manufacturing in Waynesboro, Va.

He was an engineer with the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of Zion Episcopal Church, where he served on the property committee.

He was a member of Voiture 1358 West Virginia Chapter of Forty and Eight, and Jackson-Perks American Legion Post 71 in Charles Town.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Craighill Perry Smith; two sons, Glen D. Smith Jr. of Charles Town and Price P. Smith of Ashland, Va.; one sister, Louise Adams of Abingdon, Md.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Zion Episcopal Church, Charles Town. The Rev. Melanie McCarley will officiate. Burial will be in Zion Episcopal Church Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.
