GIRLS BASKETBALL



Luna Jefferson and Alex Silva posted monster lines Tuesday for South Hagerstown as the Rebels cruised past Frederick 73-53 for their first-ever MVAL Piedmont victory.

Jefferson had 21 points and 22 rebounds, while Silva had 29 points, 16 boards, six steals and six assists for South (4-10, 1-4).

The Rebels avenged an 80-29 loss to the Cadets (10-6, 1-4) on Dec. 19.

FREDERICK, Md. -- Jackie Brewer tied the game at 61 by hitting a basket with 2 seconds left as she was fouled. She completed the three-point play by making the free throw that gave Martinsburg the close win on the road.

Brewer finished with 31 points in the game while Iesha Robinson added 24 for the Bulldogs (13-3).

Victoria Broadwater had 14 points and four steals, Tori Aikens scored 10 points and Katt Zlomke and Kelsey Koontz each had seven rebounds for Grace (3-10, 3-8). The Knights went on an 18-8 run in the fourth quarter but fell short in their upset bid.
