WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Helen Joan Decker Kauffman, 70, of 211 E. North St., died Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Born Jan. 8, 1939, in Kauffman Station, Pa., she was the daughter of Helen Brandt Decker of Greencastle, Pa., and the late Robert Charles Decker.

She was a 1956 graduate of Greencastle High School, and attended Waynesboro Business College and Hagerstown Junior College.

She was a homemaker.

She volunteered her time to drive local residents on out-of-town trips.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of more than 49 years, Donald H. Kauffman; one daughter, Julie D. Barton of Martinsburg, W.Va.; one son, Michael Kauffman of Waynesboro; one sister, Pearl L. Carmack of St. Thomas, Pa.; two brothers, Lee C. Decker of Massachusetts and Frederick M. Decker of Greencastle; two grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by one sister, Peggy Stine; and one brother, Robert C. Decker Jr.

Services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. Pastor John Huff will officiate. Burial will follow in Burns Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services Wednesday at the funeral home.
