CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - John R. Bock, 80, of Chambersburg, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Oct. 15, 1928, in Spring Run, Pa., he was a son of the late Samuel D. and Edna Emery Bock.

He was a 1948 graduate of the former Metal Township High School.

He retired from James River Corp. in Chambersburg after 30 years of service.

He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church.

He was a member of George Washington Lodge 143 F&AM, Continental Commandery 56, George Washington Royal Arch Chapter 176, George Washington Council 66 and Harrisburg Consistory.


He is survived by his wife, Anna Mae Reid Bock, whom he married June 15, 1957; three sons, David R. Bock, Dale A. Bock and Duane E. Bock, all of Chambersburg; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Wilson E. Bock.

Services will be Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg. The Rev. Matthew Richardson will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Members of George Washington Lodge 143 F&AM will conduct a Masonic service at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Presbyterian Church, 40 Lincoln Way West, Chambersburg, PA 17201; or to Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 2325 Country Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
