Two eye Smithsburg council seat

February 03, 2009

SMITHSBURG - Two local residents are interested in filling a vacant seat on the Smithsburg Town Council, Mayor Mildred "Mickey" Myers said Tuesday night.

Charles "Bud" Lucassen and Craig McCleaf have told town officials they are interested in the seat vacated by former council member Tom Chiarizia, Myers said.

Interviews for the position will be conducted Monday and council members are expected to decide during the March 3 council meeting who will get the job, Myers said.

Chiarizia resigned from council recently because of new job demands that made it impossible for him to serve on the council.
