Fire displaces Halfway family

February 02, 2009

HALFWAY -- A fire in the 10800 block of Oak Valley Drive on Monday morning displaced a family, said Ed Ernst, deputy chief for the Volunteer Fire Co. of Halfway.

The fire was reported at 4:13 a.m., a Washington County Emergency Services dispatcher said.

Firefighters from Halfway, Williamsport and Funkstown needed about 30 minutes to control the fire, Ernst said.

One of the people who lived in the home was taken to Washington County Hospital after complaining of chest pain, which he believed was stress-related, Ernst said.

No other injuries were reported.

The fire started in the basement, and appeared to be an accidental electrical fire, he said.

Two people lived in the home, and family is assisting them, Ernst said.
