Pancake breakfast to benefit Habitat effort



The annual pancake breakfast to benefit Habitat for Humanity will be Saturday from 7 to 11 a.m. at First Christian Church (in the fellowship hall) at 1345 Potomac Ave., Hagerstown.

This will be the 12th annual breakfast sponsored by the Global Outreach Commission.

The commission has pledged $1,000 for Habitat for Humanity. It would like to exceed this goal. Tickets cost $5 in advance and $5.50 at the door.

Valentine's Day



A special menu for Valentine's Day will be served Saturday, Feb. 14, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 on Northern Avenue. The menu will include New York strip steak, crab imperial, marinated chicken breast or stuffed pork chops. Dinners include two sides, rolls and butter, coffee, tea and dessert. TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 449 will hold an open house at the Hagerstown YMCA Wednesday March 11.

Weigh in is from 10:15 to 10:30 a.m. The meeting will be from 10:45 a.m. to noon.

Barbershop chorus to sing valentines



The Mason-Dixon Barbershop Chorus will offer its singing valentines Friday, Feb. 13, and Saturday, Feb. 14.

For $40, an elegantly- dressed quartet will serenade your loved one with two love songs, present a card from the sender and a small memento.

Paramount School plans family fun night



The Paramount Elementary School PTA invites students and families to the family fun night fundraiser Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Friendly's restaurant in the Stone House Square shopping center off Leitersburg Pike in Hagerstown.

On Jan. 26, TOPS (Take off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 77 welcomed another new KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly) member, Bea Myers. Congratulations, Bea, on reaching your goal.

Edna Jones led a program on "Hang in There." Patsy Price led members in a "Do You Know?" quiz from "The Choice is Mine" workbook. Linda Lemen presented charms to those participating in the walking/exercise program.

Mary Jo Kemper will lead the program today on "Goals and Rewards." A new contest, "Have a Heart," will start this month.

The chapter meets Mondays at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave., Hagerstown. Weigh-in is from 7:15 to 9:20 a.m., exercise is at 8:30 a.m. and the meeting is from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

St. Maria Goretti High School news



The following events are planned at St. Maria Goretti High School:

o A spaghetti dinner, sponsored by the boys basketball team, will be Saturday at 4 p.m. Tickets cost $5 per person. Those 5 and younger will be admitted free.

o The St. Maria Goretti choir will perform at St. Mary School on Friday, Feb. 13, at 2 p.m. Parents are welcome to attend.

o The 14th annual bonanza will be Saturday, March 14, at 6 p.m. in the Gael Center.

Masonic Temple plans spaghetti dinner



The 19th annual all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner will be Saturday, March 7, from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Masonic Temple at 54 S. Potomac St.

Tickets cost $7 per person, eat in or carry out. Hagerstown delivery available at 301-739-1535. Free parking is available in the city's new parking deck with direct access to the dinner using the parking deck elevator.

Women's Club cooking class



The public is invited to a cooking class at the Women's Club on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.

Shellie Ralston, chef from The Rhubarb House, will demonstrate cooking, with samples included. Tickets cost $12 and reservations are appreciated by calling the Women's Club at 301-739-0870.

TOPS (Take off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 446 members did not have a meeting Jan. 28 due to inclement weather.

The group plans to meet Wednesday with weigh-in at 8:45 a.m. and the meeting from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 19731 Shiloh Church Road, Hagerstown.
