INWOOD, W.Va. - Keith "Slim" Sanders, 77, of Inwood, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, at Winchester (Va.) Medical Center.

Born April 7, 1931, in Romney, W.Va., he was the son of the late Ralph Edward Sanders and Hazel F. Haines Sanders, and stepson of the late Mildred Haines Sanders.

He attended Romney (W.Va.) High School, where he was active in sports.

He retired after 20 years of service from General Motors in Martinsburg, W.Va.

He served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years, serving one tour in Korea and two tours in Vietnam aboard the USS Kemper County. He earned many commendations during that time, including Sailor of the Year.

He was a member of the VFW and Eagles.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mildred Gosnell Sanders; one daughter, Kay Shirley of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; three sons, Kip Sanders of Gerrardstown, W.Va., Ken Sanders of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Kurt Sanders of Inwood; one sister Emma Lee Harbert of Romney; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.


Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home's South Berkeley Chapel, Inwood. Pastor Mickey Jo Elliott will officiate. Military graveside services will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
