Preps Roundup -- Thornton nets 43 for No. 1 Bulldogs

FREDERICK, Md. -- Isaac Thornton scored 43 points, including 16 in the fourth quarter, to power No. 1 Martinsburg, which rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit to defeat Tuscarora, 68-61.

Thornton shot 16-for-26 from the floor and also went 10-for-15 from the free throw line to set a Tri-State area single-game season-high scoring mark.

Inshan Mohamed scored 10 points, Michael Cole added 10 rebounds and five blocks, and Kirk Hairston brought down five boards for the Bulldogs (13-2). Martinsburg made 19 free throws in the win, as opposed to just four for Tuscarora.

Jonathan Thomas led the Titans (11-3) with 24 points, including six 3-pointers, but it wasn't enough as Tuscarora could not hold on to a 36-25 lead at the half.

BERRYVILLE, Va. -- Jonathan Alvarez hit a running shot at the buzzer to give Musselman a close win at Clarke County.

Logan Holloman had 21 points while Morgan McDonald added 16 points and eight rebounds and J.D. Daniels tallied 10 boards for the Applemen (13-1).

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. -- Josh Hall and Derek Younker scored 13 points each to lead Southern Fulton to a commanding win in the Sideling Hill League.

Lucas Mellott added nine points and six rebounds for the Indians (11-6, 7-5).

No. 1 North Hagerstown 58, Frederick 43

FREDERICK, Md. -- Kirksten Mitchell led all scorers with 20 points, and also recorded eight rebounds, five steals and seven assists as North Hagerstown powered past Frederick (10-5, 1-3) in the MVAL Piedmont.

LaRae Allen added a double-double for the Hubs with 17 points, 10 rebounds, six steals and three blocks. Kishia Jackson scored 12 points, while Iman Scott came off the bench to chip in with seven points and five boards.

North (15-1, 4-1) comes home tonight to face off against Middletown in a battle of the top two teams in the Piedmont. The Knights (13-2, 4-0) handed the Hubs their only loss of the season, 59-52, on Dec. 18.

Mallory Wishard and Chelsey Kistler had 14 points each for the Maidens (11-10, 6-4). Wishard added seven rebounds and Jenna Lininger dished out nine assists.
