KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. - Margaret M. Irons Woynicz 71, of Kearneysville, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009.

Born July 9, 1937, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late William E. Irons and Leona Perrong Irons.

She graduated in 1955 from Academy of Notre Dame de Namur in Villanova, Pa., and from West Chester Teachers College in 1959.

For 34 years, she taught third grade at Grace Park Elementary School in Ridley, Pa.

She had been a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Lansdowne, Pa., and St. Leo Catholic Church in Inwood, W.Va.

She was involved with the National Education Association and Pennsylvania State Education Association, served on the alumni board of Notre Dame Academy for many years and was honored as Alumnae of the Year in 1995. She was active in the Catholic Alumni Club and was chosen as International Member of the Year, volunteered at Little Flower Manor in Darby, Pa., and the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.


She is survived by her husband, John; one sister, Leanne of Stafford, Va.; one brother, Bill, of Los Osos, Calif.; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home's South Berkeley Chapel, Inwood, W.Va., and Friday from 11 a.m. to noon at St. Leo Roman Catholic Church in Inwood, where a Mass of Christian burial will start Friday at noon.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Leo Catholic Church, P.O. Box 93, Inwood, WV 25428; or to Academy of Notre Dame de Namur, 560 Sproul Road, Villanova, PA 19085.
