CLEAR SPRING -- Earl Leon Yeakle, 79, of Clear Spring, Md., passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, at his home.

Born Oct. 23, 1929, in Clear Spring, he was the son of the late Benjamin H. Yeakle and Julia K. Eichelberger Yeakle.

He was a graduate of Clear Spring High School class of 1947 and retired from Mack Trucks in Hagerstown, after 30 years of service. He was a U.S. veteran having served in Korea. He was a member of Harry D. Zeigler VFW Post 6319 of Greencastle, Pa., and Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 of Boonsboro, Md.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Katy E. Hart Yeakle of Clear Spring; two daughters, Bernice L. Yeakle and Debra K. Yeakle, both of Clear Spring; two sons, Dennis E. Yeakle and wife, Connie, of Clear Spring and Scott A. Yeakle of Hagerstown; one brother, Paul B. Yeakle of Hagerstown; and three grandchildren, Stacey N. Talbert of Hagerstown, Bryce S. Yeakle of Clear Spring and Colson H. Yeakle of Hagerstown.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Joyce E. Yeakle and Hilda L. Kayser.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery in Clear Spring. The Rev. Ron Faith will officiate.

The family will receive friends at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring on Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. For the convenience of friends, you may visit the funeral home after noon.
