Boonsboro boys give back two wins

January 31, 2009|By TIM KOELBLE

BOONSBORO -- The Boonsboro boys basketball team has three wins on the basketball floor and two of those are being taken away.

The team has forfeited victories that came on Dec. 22 against Smithsburg and Jan. 9 against Catoctin for undisclosed rules infractions.

"The boys team is guilty of a rules violation and the forfeits are being imposed by the school," said Boonsboro athletic director Mark Wadel. "The times and dates of the infractions coincide with the two victories, so we are taking this action upon ourselves."

Wadel would not go into specifics of the violations, but did note the rule that was broken is in the governing bylaws of the Maryland Public Schools Athletic Association.

"We have sent a letter to the MPSSAA to inform them of this self-imposed decision to forfeit these games," said Wadel. He said the decision was made after conferring with the Washington County Board of Education.

Wadel said Boonsboro's victory over Mountain Ridge on Jan. 26 is not affected.
