HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. -- John William "Bill" Wilson, 92, of Hedgesville, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at his home.

Born Nov. 15, 1916, in Shepherdstown, W.Va., he was the son of the late John Reynolds Wilson and Florence Virginia Leggett Wilson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Wilson.

He was a 1934 graduate of Shepherdstown High School.

He retired in 1978 from Dupont in Falling Waters, W.Va., after 25 years of service.

He was a member of Valley View Chapel.

He was a member of Berkeley Lodge 37 AF&AM of Hedgesville and BPOE Lodge 778 of Martinsburg, W.Va.

He was presented a plaque by the U.S. Department of Interior for his volunteer work at the Leetown (W.Va.) Fish Hatchery.


He had played saxophone in a dance band that played at area establishments.

He is survived by one daughter, Barbara W. Ellis of Hedgesville, with whom he lived; one son, Jon W. Wilson of Martinsburg; three grandsons, Shawn Wilson of Martinsburg, Brendon Ellis of Hedgesville and Brian Ellis of Valencia, Pa.; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Whittington, Agnes Monks and Ruth King.

Services will be private.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 122 Waverly Court, Martinsburg, WV 25403.

Arrangements are by Rosedale Funeral Home and Cemetery in Martinsburg.
