Lions Club announces lighting contest winners

The Sharpsburg Lions Club has announced the winners of its Christmas Lighting Contest in the town of Sharpsburg.

For house decoration, Darrel Benner, 220 Main St., received first place. Steven Williams, 227 Main St., received second place; Kim Johnson, N. Potomac St., received third place.

For door decorations, Charles Leatherman, 105 Antietam St., received first place, Sam Connelly received second place and Darlene Albritton, High St., received third place.

Sharpsburg Little League to hold registration

Sharpsburg Little League will hold registration in February for players 5 to 12 years of age at the Sharpsburg Town Hall (over the library.)


Registration will be held Thursday, Feb. 12, from 6 to 8 p.m.; Friday, Feb. 13, from 6 to 8 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 14, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and Saturday, Feb. 21, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

All players must bring a birth certificate or a copy of one and three proofs of residency (no P.O boxes.) Registration costs $20 for the first child; $15 for the second child and free for additional children.

A fundraiser raffle ticket packet will be handed out with 30 tickets for the first child or 50 per family if you have two or more children registering. A drawing of five cash prizes will be held opening day. For more information, call G.E Ingram at 240-675-8140 or 301-432-0056.

Benevola to hold oyster dinner Feb. 7

Benevola United Methodist on Benevola Church Road, four miles south of Funkstown off Alternate U.S. 40, will hold a church oyster dinner Saturday, Feb. 7, from noon to 6 p.m.

The meal will include fried oysters, ham, turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, sauerkraut, corn, green beans, applesauce, assorted desserts, iced tea, lemonade and coffee. Tickets cost $14 for adults and $6 for children.

Helen House to speak at senior site

Helen House will speak on the topic "Celebrate Your Heart With Red" and conduct exercises at the senior site at the Little Antietam Community Center, 40 Mount Vernon Drive Tuesday, Feb. 3.
