St. Joseph Catholic Church plans Mardi Gras

St. Joseph Catholic Church, at the corner of Halfway Boulevard and Virginia Avenue in Halfway, will hold its pre-Lenten Mardi Gras Casino Night and Auction in Riggie Hall in the parish center on Saturday, Feb. 21, from 7 to 11 p.m.

Betting will be with play money, not real cash. The event will include a casino atmosphere, casino, board and bingo games, $50 of play "house money," a gourmet cocktail buffet and a 50/50 cash raffle. There will be a cash bar.

There will be both a silent and a live auction for a Wii system, a Vera Bradley bag, tickets to Orioles games and numerous gift certificates to restaurants and hotels.

Up to half payment on the live auction items can be made with the play "house money" or cash, check, or credit card.

Gaming tables and the manpower to run the evening of games will be supplied by the Hagerstown Exchange Club, which donates its fee to the Hagerstown Parent/Child Center.

A committee of parishioners supplies the decorations, buffet, program booklets and organization of the event.

The Rev. Chris Moore, pastor, has called this parish fundraiser "the Blast before the Fast!" as it is held prior to the Lenten season, which begins Wednesday, Feb. 25.

Mardi Gras benefits the growth and expansion of the parish and parish facilities and the Hagerstown Parent/Child Center. Tickets cost $25 per person and will be available in the parish office or at the door the night of the event. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and credit cards will be accepted. Contact Angie at 301-797-9445 for tickets or more information. The snow date is Sunday, Feb. 22.
