HAGERSTOWN - Mildred Lavinia Lizer, 98, of Rosebank Way, and formerly of Vermont Street, Williamsport, Md., died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, at Fahrney-Keedy Home, Boonsboro, Md.

Born Aug. 15, 1910, in Downsville, Md., to the late Lewis Stanhope and Annie Virgie Cline Shipley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Sidney Lizer, on Oct. 20, 1977.

She attended Downsville School.

She was a homemaker and previously worked at WD Byron Tannery, Williamsport, Md., where she met her husband. She also sold tickets at the old Williamsport Theater on Conococheague Street in Williamsport.

She was the oldest living member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church, Williamsport, where she taught Sunday school.

Survivors include:

Daughter: Phyllis A. Mauro of Hagerstown, Md., and her late husband, Vincent Mauro

Sister: Nellie I. Reid of Halfway, Md.


Sister: Phyllis Jane Hammond of Williamsport

Sister: Marian C. Gaylor of Downsville

Sister: Fern A. Speaker of Martinsburg, W.Va.

Also survived by nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by five sisters and four brothers.

For the convenience of family and friends, the Osborne Funeral Home will be open Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Graveside services will be held Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Riverview Cemetery, Williamsport, with the Rev. Dr. James E. Swecker officiating.
