MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Harold Franklin Hofe, 97, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, in Martinsburg.

Born in Morgan County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Raymond and Mabel Hofe.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Inda Mae Unger. They were married in 1934.

He graduated first in his class at Paw Paw (W.Va.) High School.

He retired as assistant postmaster from the U.S. Post Office in 1974.

He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church. He was a benefactor of the Great Cacapon (W.Va.) Methodist Church.

He was a member of Pikeside Ruritan Club and Berkeley County (W.Va.) Centennial Planning Committee.

He is survived by one daughter, Gail L. Hofe Barr of Delmar, Del.; three sisters, Mauvareen Whisner, Winona Shade and Mary Jane Michael, all of Berkeley Springs; one brother, Earl W. Hofe of Martinsburg; two granddaughters; one great-grandson; nieces; and nephews.


Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Kenneth Fizer will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
