BALTIMORE - Jarelle Cutler of Hagerstown kicked off the Chinese New Year by winning $9,000 on a Year of the Ox scratch-off ticket.
Cutler, 20, had just finished his early morning shift cooking breakfast for a Hagerstown restaurant. On his drive home, he stopped at the Sheetz store at 1396 S. Potomac St. to buy lottery tickets.
"I purchased two scratch-offs, a $1 ticket and a $2 Year of the Ox. The first one didn't win anything, but when I scratched the second one I hit it big," said Cutler.
He scanned the ticket at several stores to confirm the win. "They said, 'We can't cash this here. You're a big winner,'" he said. "That's when I knew I'm in the money!"
