Varicose veins are his specialty

HAGERSTOWN -- For Dr. Anhtai Nguyen, the question is not whether to attend forums on his specialty -- diseases of the veins -- but how often he can work them into his busy schedule.

Medical director of the Laser Vein Center for Excellence in Hagerstown, Nguyen recently returned from a varicose vein and venous disease forum at Duke University.

"This was a very good event," Nguyen said. "There were national leaders in the field there."

Venous experts from the most prestigious medical centers in the United States, the United Kingdom and Argentina attended and shared the latest information on treating varicose veins and venous diseases.

What drives Nguyen, he said, is his determination that he will be able to offer his patients all that is available to them when they come to his office for treatment.

"I try to go to these forums a few times each year," he said.

Since 2000, Nguyen has been practicing in the Tri-State area.

He grew up in Montgomery County, Md. After getting his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland in College Park, he went on to earn his medical degree at the Baltimore campus of the University of Maryland.

After completing his training in Philadelphia, he settled in Washington County.

"I wanted to come here because my family is close by," Nguyen said.

The December forum was presented by the Division of Vascular Surgery of Duke in Durham, N.C., focusing on the most current information needed by health-care providers to understand, prevent and treat venous diseases, including varicose veins.

Nguyen is a specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of varicose veins and other venous disorders. He takes pride in offering patients the latest diagnostics and treatment technologies available.

"Our patients deserve to receive the same advanced technologies as those in the major medical centers. It is my responsibility and duty to deliver this service to my patients," Nguyen said.

Nguyen and his staff provide services to their patients Monday through Saturday, including varicose vein treatments performed right in the office.
