Cleo E. Keller

SWEETWATER, N.J. - Keller, Cleo E., of Sweetwater, passed away Jan. 25, 2009.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Normandy Invasion and the Pacific Theater, and also in the Korean conflict.

He retired from the Navy as Chief Boatswain Mate in 1963. After the Navy, he worked for Mack Trucks in Hagerstown, Md., where he retired after 15 years of service. He also worked in Scotland School for Veterans' Children in Chambersburg, Pa., and as a drill instructor at St. Aloysius High School in New Orleans, La.

He was a life member of VFW Post 1599 and the Arthur T. Weed Lodge 59 F&AM. His hobbies included pigeon fancier, hunting and gardening.

Cleo was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Maude (Bower) Keller; and by a son, Randall Keller.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Virginia; two sons, Gary and wife, Jan, of Ashburn, Va., and Christopher of Orlando, Fla.; two daughters, Kim Keeffe and husband, James, of Sweetwater, and Vickie Noe and husband, Gregory, of Hagerstown; nine grandchildren, Debra Haskell (Brian), Rachel Keller, Mark (Laura), Erin, Benjamen, Margaret, Emily Noe, Lauren and Corey Keeffe; three great-grandchildren, Carmela Lopez, Sophia Dzombar and Ella Grace Noe; brother, Vagel, and wife, Edna; and sister, Roselda Sorber, and husband, Don. He will be sadlly missed by Carmela Keller and many friends.

A viewing will be held Thursday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main St., Mays Landing, where Masonic services will be held at 7:30 p.m. followed by a service conducted by Pastor Doug Rea. Commital services will be held Friday, 12:30 p.m. at the Atlantic Co. Veterans Cemetery in Estell Manor.
