Singing Valentines

The Mason-Dixon Barbershop Chorus will hold its annual Singing Valentine fundraiser Friday, Feb. 13, and Saturday, Feb. 14.

Give your loved one a Valentine he or she will remember for a long time. Quartets are warmed up and ready to sing in the Hagerstown area, in homes, schools, hospitals, nursing homes, offices and even on street corners in some cases. They have even been seen and heard singing in elevators (great acoustics).

For $40, an elegantly dressed quartet will serenade your loved one with two love songs, present a card from the sender and a small memento. Wherever they appear around Valentine's Day, they draw a crowd and sometimes a few tears.

Reservations will be taken through Wednesday, Feb. 11. Reserve early, as times are limited. In Maryland, call 301-730-7078. In Pennsylvania, call 717-328-3674. You can also make reservations at www.masondixonchorus.org.

The chorus is a nonprofit organization that contributes to various charities in the area. It is open to all men who like to sing. The chorus meets Mondays at 7:30 p.m. at Haven Lutheran Church in Hagerstown.

Registration

Smithsburg Little Sluggers, which is sanctioned through Cal Ripken Baseball, will hold registration for the upcoming season. Ages 4 to 18 are eligible to play in the league.

Registration will be Friday, Feb. 13, from 7 to 9 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 14, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Friday, Feb. 20, from 7 to 9 p.m.; and Saturday, Feb. 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.Â All registrations will be held at the Smithsburg Fire Hall. All current and new players must register.Â

For registration, bring birth certificate and $35 for one child, $65 for more than one child ages 4 to 12, and $130 per child for ages 13 to 18.Â

Smithsburg Elementary

PTSA membership -- The membership competition continues.

The homeroom that has the most PTSA memberships by the end of February will be awarded a pizza party in March. Students will be credited for each member that is signed up under their name. Parent memberships will count toward all middle school students they have. Please indicate on the membership form which homeroom your child is in. PTSA funds go toward student recognition, field trips, activities and assemblies. Membership costs $5, payable in cash or check to SMS PTSA.
