Pancake breakfast



The annual pancake breakfast to benefit Habitat for Humanity is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 7, from 7 to 11 a.m. at First Christian Church (in the fellowship hall) at 1345 Potomac Ave., Hagerstown.

This will be the 12th annual breakfast sponsored by the church's Global Outreach Commission.

The commission has pledged $1,000 for Habitat for Humanity. The members hope to exceed this goal. Tickets will be sold Sunday in the Lower Tower Room. The cost this year will be $5 in advance and $5.50 at the door.

TOPS (Take off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 446 members and visitors enjoyed a talk and question- and-answer time by Dr. Vishal Datta at the Jan. 21 meeting. Thank you, Dr. Datta, for attending the meeting and sharing your time and information with the group. Also, a thank you to Shelia and Sue for the display of fresh fruit for all to enjoy.

The group will hear about "Three Points to Better Health" at Wednesday's meeting.

The group meets at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 19731 Shiloh Church Road, Hagerstown, Wednesdays at 8:45 a.m. for weigh-in. The meeting is from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

St. Maria Goretti High School news and events:

o Catholic Schools Week will be observed this week.

o The winter open house will be Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. This will be an opportunity to meet the staff, learn about the curriculum and have a private tour led by a student.

o The school has announced that there will be a boys and girls lacrosse team for the spring season. No experience is necessary.

On Jan. 19, TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 77 welcomed another new member, Terri H. The chapter welcomes new members. They will get all the encouragement they need to reach their goals.

Mary Reid, Eileene Mason and Mildred Hluchy led the program on "Have a Heart." The women performed a skit, and then talked about the warnings of a heart attack and how to have a healthy heart.

Edna Jones will lead the program this week on "Hanging in There."

It will also be the final week for the "Snow Blizzard" contest.

The chapter meets Mondays at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave., Hagerstown. Weigh-in is from 7:15 to 9:20 a.m., exercise is at 8:30 a.m. and the meeting is from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
