Martinsburg police officer stabbed

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- Police are searching for a man who stabbed a police officer this morning, Martinsburg police said.

Patrolman 1st Class Eric Neely was stabbed with a folding knife while trying to restrain the man this morning, police said in a press release.

Neely was taken to City Hospital, treated for superficial slash wounds on his left leg, and later released, police said.

Neely was injured when police responded to Nobourne Cemetery on South Queen Street for reports of trespassing.

Police are looking for a man described as white, in his late 20s, wearing a dark, hooded jacket, officers said in a news release. The man is about 6 feet tall and has blond hair. He was with two other men, police said.
