CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Thomas Claiborne Green Coyle, 80, of Charles Town, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at his home.

Born Oct. 20, 1928, in Charleston, W.Va., he was the son of the late Lucy Green and George Lacy Coyle.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Nancy Casto Coyle.

He was a 1946 graduate of Fishburne Military School and attended Washington and Lee University.

In 1972, he and his wife purchased Riddleberger's Store in Charles Town and operated it for 21 years.

He was a member of Charles Town Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder, a trustee and superintendent of Sunday school.

He was a past member of the Bank of Charles Town Board of Directors, Jefferson Hospital Board of Directors and a trustee of Edge Hill Cemetery.

He is survived by five children, Nancy Walborn of Columbia, S.C., Margaret Dempsey of Charles Town, Sarah Etro of Round Hill, Va., Thomas Coyle Jr. of Charlotte, N.C., and Carolyn Born of Hamilton, Mont.; one brother, James T. Coyle of Christiansburg, Va.; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, George L. Coyle Jr.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Charles Town Presbyterian Church. The Rev. John Bethard will officiate. Burial will follow in Edge Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Ranson, W.Va.
