CARLISLE, Pa. - George S. "Junior" Klenzing Jr., 89, of Carlisle and formerly of 4667 Coontown Road, Chambersburg, Pa., died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, at Manorcare in Carlisle.

Born June 6, 1919, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late George and Mary Gabler Klenzing.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Rupert Klenzing, in 1983.

He was a 1939 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School.

He worked on pipelines for Texas Eastern Pipeline, retiring after 15 years.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

He was a prisoner of war while serving in the U.S. Army, during World War II.

He was a member of AMVETS Post 224, VFW Post 1599, The Fraternal Order of Police and BPOE 600.

He is survived by two sons, George S. Klenzing III of Hagerstown and Robert E. Klenzing of Modoc, Ind.; three sisters, Mildred Colliflower, Helen Shreiner and Mary Jane East, all of Chambersburg; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.


He was preceded in death by four sisters, four brothers, one granddaughter and one great-grandson.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home in Chambersburg. The Rev. Tara Magoon will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns, with graveside military honors by Charles M. Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599.

Visitation will be Monday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
