January 22, 2009

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A man injured Tuesday in a seven-vehicle crash in which his two passengers died was listed in serious condition Wednesday night at York (Pa.) Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Timothy J. Miller Jr., 19, of Hughesville, Pa., was flown to York following the 6:40 a.m. accident on Interstate 81 about a mile south of Exit 20. The sport utility vehicle he was driving crossed the median into the northbound lanes colliding with four tractor-trailers, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Pronounced dead at the scene were Justin Foster Clayton, 18, of Milton, Pa., and 19-year-old Caleb A. Rushing of Denham, La., police said.

Police said the three Marines were headed back to Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.

The crash had the northbound lanes closed for several hours while the wreckage was cleared and police investigated. A passenger bus with 37 people aboard was involved in the crash and the passengers were taken to the Scotland (Pa.) Community Center until new transportation could be arranged.
