Lillian Etta Kendle, 81, formerly of Church Street, Hagerstown, Md., died on Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at Somerford Place, where she was a resident.

Born June 6, 1927, in Cumberland, Md., she was the daughter of the late Jim and Vista White Bagley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Kendle Sr., on Oct. 4, 1994.

She was a member of Sharpsburg (Md.) Church of the Brethren.

She was a member of the Homemakers Association and was active in the bowling leagues at Turners Bowling Lanes.

She is survived by one brother, Richard Bagley of Delaware; four grandchildren, Robert W. Kendle III of Columbia, Md., Loretta K. Short of Boonsboro, Md., Christine L. McDonald of Hagerstown and Katie M. Green of Greencastle, Pa.; seven great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Ida M. Kendle of Boonsboro.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lillian E. Kendle; one son, Robert W. Kendle Jr.; and three brothers, Ralph Bagley, Robert Bagley and Lewis Bagley.


Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Homer L. Nutting Jr. and the Rev. Donna L. Nutting will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery in Sharpsburg.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.
