"I find I must take the paper to task for the incomplete article on the murals on the walls of the Elizabeth Center. You left out a very important element that was discussed for many minutes once the Bartels came forward, at Councilperson Penny Nigh's request, to whit a process whereby an artist - I only remember 'Josh' - would supply the basic components, and schoolchildren would do the actual artwork for a permanent replacement that would cost the City only a tiny fraction of the framed panels' cost. We are in a 'recession' at the very least, and the City wants to spend maybe thousands of dollars on walls and photos? What is wrong with you?" - Hagerstown

"Why should there be a three-day event for an inauguration? And look at the waste of money and this chaotic mess. I'm so tired of hearing about this already. Three days for inauguration, to put a man in office - how wasteful. How wasteful, when this world is in the situation it is." - Boonsboro

"I wish the news media would quit comparing Barack Obama with Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln was a great man. All the credentials Obama has is running a town hall meeting, and doing a little bit of community organizing - whatever that is. So I wish they would wait and maybe compare him later, but I think it's way too early to try to brainwash us ordinary people." - Sharpsburg

"Why is it that it seems like this newspaper is so afraid to put the truth in about Israel and Hamas? Why are they so afraid to tell the truth, that for 963 days, Hamas has bombed Israel every day, and about the number of people that was killed in Israel? And I think they should be taken up for." - Falling Waters, W.Va.

"I think the Maryland State Police corporal that was quoted in Monday's paper needs to clarify his statement concerning 'a ton of troopers.' I think they need to be honest with the citizenry. The entire convention of troopers at the Hagerstown barrack doesn't consist of a ton of troopers." - Smithsburg

"I have to laugh at all the uproar over the expensive security for the inauguration. I think one thing people don't realize, a lot of that security is for George Bush ... after what he did to our country. I wonder how many millions of dollars it's gonna cost us until he draws his last breath, to protect him. Also, maybe we'll see a nice picture in the paper tomorrow of Obama, instead of some ... football fans on the front page. What kind of newspaper is this anymore?" - Hagerstown

"I don't understand the negative comments about Obama. I would think everyone would want him to succeed, because if he succeeds, our country succeeds, and if our country succeeds, all of us succeed. To say 'Well, the Democrats condemned Bush' means that we will never get over this bipartisanship, just like Israel and the Palestinians keep blaming the other. Let's just stop it and let's give this man our full support." - Hagerstown

"Free at last, free at last. Praise God Almighty, free at last. Bruised and battered after eight years of dully-elected Bush tyranny, the Constitution and the nation it embodies are free at last." - Chambersburg, Pa.

"Is anyone worried about the fact that the MCI prisoner disappeared between 5:30 and 6:30 a.m., but the state police weren't notified until 10:30 a.m.? That's, you know, best case scenario, a four-hour difference. That's a long time, and I think the community needs to know why." - Smithsburg

"As a homeowner in the area around the prison, I would like to know what steps the prison used to inform us of the escape, since we have two schools in the area. Also, I'd like to see the paper do a story on this, because I tell you, I was not informed, and neither any of my neighbors were informed, until Sunday morning when we seen the paper. I believe the prison system did a terrible job of this, and I believe they need to make some corrections." -Hagerstown

"I'm calling about the money that the city is paying in lobbyists. It just seems to me it's unconscionable to be paying additional funds when they haven't even found out what the last funds were paid for. Why can't they use that money to pay for another employee to look for funds? That would be their full-time job. In this day and age, with cutbacks, it's just ridiculous." - Hagerstown

"If Nancy Pelosi's gonna get an investigation for Dick Cheney and George Bush, she should first do one on the Clintons. I noticed that Bill wouldn't release his money records and where he got all the money for his library until Hillary run for secretary of state. I noticed the other night on TV, the only thing she said, 'We gave them what they had to have,' and she was reluctant to do that. She said no other husbands had to release their ... how many previous presidents' wives run for secretary of state?" - Waynesboro, Pa.
