HAGERSTOWN -- Hagerstown Police were searching for a man who tried to entice a 9-year-old girl into his van Wednesday evening near Elgin Station, the department said in a news release.

The girl was leaving Elgin Station at about 6:25 p.m. when the man approached her and told her to get into a van parked nearby, police said. He attempted to grab her, but she broke free and ran, police said.

The girl was not hurt, police said.

The man was described as a medium-complexioned black man, about 6 feet tall, with a bald spot on the top of his head and a full beard. The van was full-sized and red, with assorted bumper stickers on the rear bumper, police said.

Police ask that anyone with information about the van, the man or the incident contact the Criminal Investigation Division of the Hagerstown Police Department at 301-790-3700, ext. 234.
