Derby Day to be held at Valley Mall



On Saturday, Feb. 14, the Mason-Dixon Council of Boy Scouts of America will hold Derby Day at Valley Mall. The Scouts will be participating in the annual Pinewood Derby, Raingutter Regatta and Space Derby in Center Court from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This year, Halfway Park Days will be on Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24, at Martin L. "Marty" Snook Memorial Park in Halfway.

The Lions Club of Halfway sponsors the annual event, which includes live music performances, craft vendors and merchants and homemade goodies. The Lions Club will have its barbecue chicken for sale and there will be rides for children, and more.

Alumni game scheduled



Williamsport High School is planning an alumni men's basketball doubleheader to raise funds for the families of two WHS students who are battling cancer. The WHS Men's Alumni's "'Cats Fighting Cancer" games are scheduled for the evening of Saturday, Feb. 21, in the school's gymnasium.

Former senior varsity letter winners are eligible to play.

Little League clinic



Starting Tuesday, Feb. 3, and every Tuesday during the month of February, a Little League rules of baseball clinic will be held at the Church of Christ on Leitersburg Pike in Hagerstown.

The workshops will run from 6 to 8:30 each night.

Local umpires Denny Hockensmith and Dave Grams will lead the workshops. The instructors will review the basics along with the changes to the rule book.

Each league is in need of umpires and all managers are urged to attend. Those who have questions about the clinic can call Denny at 301-416-2841 or Dave at 301-791-1687.
