FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Margaret J. "Peggy" Ankerbrand, 68, of Fayetteville, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, in Las Vegas after a long battle with ovarian cancer.

Born Nov. 10, 1940, in New York City, she was the daughter of Margaret M. Goggin Kelley of Crofton, Md., and the late Erlow C. Kelley.

She graduated from Galt (Calif.) High and from Sacramento State with a degree in business administration.

She had worked at The Pet Ritz frozen pie plant in Chambersburg.

She was the executive director of Foster City Chamber of Commerce for 17 years. She was the founder and behind-the-scenes person for its Art & Wine Festival. She also started a Community Guide for the Chamber. She served on the San Mateo County Grand Jury, was president of the Peninsula Civic Light Opera for several years and served on the Foster City Library Committee to establish a new site for the current library.


She was a volunteer with the local Chamber, Art Council, Chambersburg Theater, Cumberland Valley School of Music and Totem Pole Playhouse.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Bob, whom she married May 27, 1961; one sister, Maureen Weller of Crofton; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Michael Kelley.

A viewing will be Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, Chambersburg, with services to follow. The Rev. Wayne Lowe will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery.

A memorial service will be held next month in Foster City, Calif.
