Mildred I. Keefer, 91

CLEAR SPRING - Mildred Ilene Keefer, 91, formerly of Blairs Valley Road in Clear Spring, Md., and a resident of Homewood Nursing Home, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, at the home surrounded by her loving family.

Born Sept. 12, 1917, in Hancock, Md., she was the daughter of the late Harry Cletus Younker and Lula Louise Moore Younker.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Joseph Elwood Keefer Sr., in 2001. She was a devoted Christian wife, mother and grandmother.

She was a member of Blairs Valley First Church of God in Clear Spring since 1936. Prior to her passing, she was the longest living member of the church.

She retired from the Washington County Board of Education food service.

She is survived by four daughters, Bonnie M. Covert of Mercersburg, Pa., Connie I. Atherton and husband, Darrel, of Mercersburg, Pa., Carolyn F. Rhodes and husband, John Sr., of Clear Spring, and Donna M. Lee and husband, Larry, of Romney, W.Va.; three sons, Joseph E. Keefer Jr. and wife, Shirley, and Merle E. Keefer and wife, Nancy, both of Clear Spring, and Harold R. Keefer and fiance, Teresa Downing, of Mercersburg; 13 grandchildren, Brenda L. Keefer, Merle E. Keefer Jr., Rodney W. Keefer, Tammy S. Leigh, Debra L. Ankerbrand, Lisa S. Rhodes, John L. Rhodes Jr., Kimberly S. Brown, Robert E. Keefer, Terry L. Atherton, Darla D. Robinson, Larry E. Lee II and Kelly D. Lee; 20 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Louise Lewis; six brothers, Thurman, Herman, Samuel, Bill, Harry and Woodrow Younker; and one grandson, Douglas E. Atherton.

Services will be Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Robert Stone, the Rev. Jonathan Laye and the Rev. David Sword will officiate. Burial will be in Blairs Valley Cemetery.
