Surprise party

January 19, 2009

GREENCASTLE, Pa. -- Family members surprised Clifford Myers with an 80th birthday surprise party Saturday at Mikie's Ice Cream and Green Cow Gift Shop.

The event was part of a four-day celebration in honor of the milestone birthday and Clifford's 60th wedding anniversary with his wife, Mary, that brought more than 50 relatives to town from all over the country, son-in-law Tom Matthews said. Part of the surprise was a visit from Clifford's only living brother, the Rev. Richard Myers, and his wife, Doris Myers. Richard and Doris live in Washington state.

Family members had arranged for Clifford to arrive at the ice cream shop in a 1929 Roadster, from the year he was born, but because of cold weather and salty road conditions, they used a 1991 Corvette Stingray instead, Matthews said. The family is planning a ride in the '29 Roadster for sometime in the spring, he said.
