Dave was a civil engineer, retiring as a partner from Wallace Montgomery & Associates in Baltimore, before retiring to Hagerstown. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Longmeadow Rotary Club, Fountainhead Country Club, Washington County Hospital Auxiliary and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret M. Abercrombie; one daughter, Joy A. Young and husband, Robert, of Heathsville, Va.; a son, David M. Abercrombie III and wife, Linda, of Exton, Pa.; five grandchildren, R. Benjamin Young of Arlington, Va., Andrew D. Young of Heathsville, Va., Lauren M. Abercrombie of Exton, Meghan A. Abercrombie of Exton and Dana L. Abercrombie of Exton.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Ruenzel.
Services will be Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, at 11 a.m. from St. John's Episcopal Church, 101 S. Prospect St., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Stephanie P. Yancy officiating.
Family will receive friends at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va., at a later date.
