Mary Catherine "Chick" Kitchen, 83, of Hagerstown Md., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, at the Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.

Born Sunday, June 7, 1925, in Cearfoss, Md., she was the daughter of the late G. Fred Deiterich and the late Katherine S. Schindel Deiterich. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Henry Kitchen Jr., in 2006. Mary Catherine was raised by the late Edith Schindel Haiston and Clarence E. Haiston.

She was a 1944 graduate of Hagerstown High School. Mary Catherine was employed at the Washington County Hospital in Respiratory Care, Hagerstown Shoe Co. and Fairchild Aircraft. She was a life member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, where she was involved in the Altar Guild and the Esther Bible Class, she also sang on the adult choir for over 50 years. She was a member of the Washington County Hospital Auxiliary Escort Services.

She is survived by three daughters, Ann Louise Mohler of Shippensburg, Pa., Kay Ellen Hartman of Hagerstown and Kristin Lynne McEnroe of Hagerstown; one son, Charles Henry Kitchen III of Hagerstown; a brother, E. Odell Dietrich of Hagerstown; three grandchildren, Nelson C. Hartman of Hagerstown, Bruce A. Hartman of Hagerstown and Hunter C. Hartman of Hagerstown; two stepgrandchildren, Julie A. Mohler of Shippensburg and Lorie B. Varner of Shippensburg; and one stepgreat-grandchild, Zachary Varner of Shippensburg.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Jane Lawrence; and two brothers, Robert E. Deiterich and George Fred Deiterich Jr.

Services will be held Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 601 Washington Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Quentin Fleming officiating.

Family will receive friends at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18.

Interment will be in the Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
