Salvage yard permit to be discussed

January 15, 2009

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - The Washington Township (Pa.) Supervisors are considering whether to deny a permit renewal needed for Bruce Neibert to legally operate his salvage yard.

Neibert applied for the necessary permit renewal at the end of 2008, but the supervisors plan to speak with him before making a decision. For several years, the supervisors have had concerns about Neibert's debris spilling out beyond its allowed bounds on his Pa. 316 South property.

Township employees visited the site on Wednesday and took pictures of the trash not contained within the treeline.

A standing court order allows the township to remove debris using up to $5,000 of Neibert's money held in an account. The supervisors must give Neibert 10 days advanced notice before taking that action.

Neibert and his siblings are preparing to subdivide the property, following the death of his father, according to Washington Township Manager Mike Christopher.
