FREDERICK, Md. - Kenneth Eugene Arnett, 78, of Frederick and formerly of Middletown, Md., died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, at his home.

He was the son of the late Louis F. and Mary Blanche Garrett Arnett.

He graduated from Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, Tenn.

He and his wife owned Arnett's Market from 1967 until 1985.

He served in the U.S. Air Force.

He was a former president of the Middletown Lions Club, had served as ambulance captain, an emergency medical technician, fire police and on the Board of Directors of the Middletown Volunteer Fire Department, was a member of AMVETS Post 9 of Middletown and was elected burgess of Middletown in 1980.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marion Esther Harris Arnett; four daughters, Debra J. Shafer, Teresa L. Arnett and Wanda S. Jenkins, all of Frederick, and Eugenia M. Doane of Thurmont, Md.; one sister, Elizabeth Rachel of Bristol, Tenn.; and 11 grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by one brother, William L. Arnett.

A memorial service will be Monday at 2 p.m. at The Church of the Transfiguration in Braddock Heights, Md. The Rev. Henry Sabetti will officiate. Following the service, there will be a celebration of life at the church.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home in Middletown.
