Helen Prisak, 83

Helen Prisak of Hagerstown passed away Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009.

She was born Aug. 19, 1925, in Bohorodczany, Ukraine.

She left Ukraine as a young woman to escape the oncoming Communist invasion of Ukraine. She went to West Germany, where she met her future husband, Nicholas, who also had escaped earlier from Ukraine. At that time, he was an MP with the Allied Forces. They were married and a few years later came to live in the United States. They moved from New Jersey to Hagerstown in 1962.

She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Hagerstown.

She was a member of the Catholic Golden Age Club.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas; her brothers, Joseph and Walter Proc; and her grandson, Ryan Greivell.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Mary and husband, David Lohr, of Ellicott City, Md.; her son, Joseph Prisak and wife, Sandy, of Hagerstown; grandsons, Nicholas Prisak, Charles Lohr, Andrew Lohr, and Adam Greivell and wife, Jessica; and great-grandson, Chase Greivell.


A Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church, Hagerstown, with Father Doug Kenny officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.
