24 pounds of marijuana found in car

January 14, 2009

A Pennsylvania man was arrested early Wednesday after about 24 pounds of marijuana were found in the trunk of a vehicle he was driving, Maryland State Police said.

At about 12:12 a.m., troopers stopped a Dodge Charger for speeding on Halfway Boulevard. During the traffic stop, troopers requested the assistance of a K-9 unit. A search of the vehicle revealed the marijuana, which police said had an approximate street value of $33,500.

The driver, Marvin Leonard of Effort, Pa., was taken before a district court commissioner on charges of possession of marijuana as well as distribution and importation charges.
