Olde Tyme Christmas 'incredible'

FUNKSTOWN - More than 3,000 people turned out for Olde Tyme Christmas this year - a figure that surprised even the organizer of the event.

"That's going to be hard to top," said Rich Gaver.

But in his report to the Funkstown Mayor and Council Monday evening, Gaver said he and his wife, Rose, would be on board to do just that when the event rolls around next Christmas.

Gaver said more than 1,000 raffle tickets were sold.

"The businesses in town seemed happy, although I am still waiting for feedback forms to come in," Gaver said.

A round of applause from the town officials was directed at the Gavers and the members of his committee for a job well done.

Next year, the Olde Tyme Christmas committee is hoping to dress the town up a little more, possibly with holiday banners on the downtown lampposts.

There was a Christmas parade through town on Dec. 12. Other events included a roast beef dinner, a craft show, wagon rides, musical performances, ornament and other decorating contests, as well as the traditional house-decorating contest.

"It was a pretty incredible night," Gaver said.
