Goldie Miller Lettau, 99, of Hagerstown, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Nov. 30, 1909, in Jefferson, Md., she was the daughter of the late Joseph William and Alice Elizabeth Himes Darner.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, George R. Miller Sr., in 1968, and her second husband, Charles W. Lettau, in 1994.

She was a graduate of Frederick High School and Frederick Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She did postgraduate courses in pediatrics at the Children's Hospital, Washington, D.C., and psychiatric nursing at Seaton Place, Baltimore. After graduation, she worked at the Odd Fellows Home in Frederick, private duty nursing, supervisor in several hospitals and night supervisor at the Williamsport Nursing Home.


She was a member of the Frederick Memorial Hospital Nurses Alumnae Association and Cumberland Valley Retirement Association.

She was a member of the Hagerstown Seventh-day Adventist Church for many years. She was church treasurer for 10 years, did welfare work for the church and packaged clothing for the Chesapeake Warehouse for Disaster.

She was also treasurer for Mount Aetna Elementary School at one time.

She is survived by one son, George R. Miller of Hagerstown; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers.

Private burial will be held at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. Pastor Rick Remmers officiating. There will be no visitation.

Arrangements are being handled by Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
