McKee reports to prison in N.J.

January 12, 2009|By ERIN JULIUS

Former Maryland Del. Robert A. McKee arrived Monday afternoon at a federal prison in Fort Dix, N.J., a Federal Bureau of Prisons spokeswoman said.

McKee, 59, of Halfway, a former executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Washington County, was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Baltimore in November to 37 months in prison for possessing child pornography.

The Federal Correctional Institution in Fort Dix is a low-security facility for male inmates, spokeswoman Traci Billingsley said. The low-security rating is above minimum security but below medium security, Billingsley said. The prison is adjacent to a minimum-security camp, she said.

FCI Fort Dix is in Burlington County on the Fort Dix/McGuire Air Force Base military installation, according to information available on the Bureau of Prisons Web site. The prison is about 40 miles from Philadelphia and 30 miles from the New Jersey shore.

The Bureau of Prisons tries to place offenders in facilities within 500 miles of the residence they will live in upon release, Billingsley said.
