WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Larry J. "Butch" Rowe, 61, of Madison Avenue, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at his home.

Born Oct. 23, 1947, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Donald R. and Rella C. Mohn Rowe.

He was a 1966 graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Law Enforcement from Northeast Louisiana University in 1974.

He served in the U.S. Marines, during the Vietnam War.

Following college, he became a police officer for the Hagerstown Police Department for 12 years.

He was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church in Waynesboro.

He was a member of Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15, William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695, both of Waynesboro and the Fraternal Order of Police.


He is survived by two daughters, Jennifer L. Rowe of Baltimore and Kristi L. Boden-Johnson of Hagerstown; five sisters, Alice C. Rowe, Martha A. Thomas and Mary L. Guyer, all of Waynesboro, Phyllis E. Smith of Mont Alto, Pa. and Linda L. Haugh of Crofton, Md.; one brother, Robert D. Rowe of Waynesboro; nieces; and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Doris J. Butterbaugh, Edith M. Wetzel and Barbara S. Rowe.

Graveside memorial services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Harbaugh Church Cemetery near Rouzerville, Pa., with military services by Charles Nitterhouse VFW Honor Guard Post 1599 of Chambersburg. The Rev. Walter A. Stuart will officiate.

It was his request to have no public viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Antietam Humane Society, 8513 Lyons Road, Waynesboro, PA 17268.

Arrangements are by Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro.
