MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Earl Emmert "Mike" Avey, 84, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at his home.

Born Sept. 10, 1924, in Berkeley County., W.Va., he was the son of the late Canada and Mildred Saville Avey.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha T. Moore Avey.

He was a member of Independent Bible Church and Maranatha ABF.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II.

He is survived by three daughters, Vickie Cave of Martinsburg, Brenda Bowers of Hedgesville, W.Va., and DeAnna Avey-Motikeit of Lake Arrowhead, Calif.; three sisters, Virginia M. Minghini of Ganotown, W.Va., Brancie J. Riser of White Plains, Md., and Juanita F. Files of Jones Spring, W.Va.; three brothers, Bruce M. and Charles B. Avey, both of Martinsburg, and Guy R. Avey of Winchester, Va.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Geraldine L. Moricle;, and one brother, Jennings V. Avey.


Services will be Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. Pastors Mark Johnson and Curt Lowry will officiate.

Military graveside services will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

Family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
