Thefts, burglaries reported in Hagerstown

The Hagerstown Police Department responded to the following incidents, according to spokeswoman Barbara Pickett:

On Thursday:

o At 8:30 a.m., a theft was reported in the 500 block of North Mulberry Street. Flower boxes were stolen.

o At 6:53 p.m., a theft was reported in the 600 block of Washington Street. Two ladders and vehicle rims were stolen.

On Wednesday:

o At 4:08 p.m., a burglary was reported in the 600 block of Virginia Avenue. Jewelry was stolen.

On Monday:

o At 2:06 p.m., a burglary was reported in the first block of North Potomac St. A 40-year-old Hagerstown man was arrested.


Two men charged in W.Va. firearms burglary

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Two men were charged in connection with a Nov. 11 firearms burglary after one of them went to City Hospital Thursday with a gunshot wound to the leg, according to a Berkeley County Sheriff's Department press release.

Investigators found during an attempt to move the stolen firearms from a storage location on Williamsport Pike, one of the firearms discharged and struck Herman Terrell Govan in the leg, deputies said.

Govan, 25, of no fixed address, and Jacob Charles Kesecker, 24, of Bedington Road in Martinsburg, were charged with burglary, deputies said.

Investigators found all but one of the stolen weapons and several other pieces of stolen property from the burglary, deputies said.

Along with the burglary charge, Govan was charged with conspiracy to commit burglary and transferring stolen property, deputies said.

Govan's bond was set at $37,000 and he was being Thursday morning at Eastern Regional Jail, deputies said.

Kesecker's charges, in addition to burglary, were conspiracy to commit burglary, transferring stolen property and wanton endangerment, deputies said.

Kesecker's bond was set at $32,000 and he also being held Thursday morning at Eastern Regional Jail, deputies said.

Govan and Kesecker were found at a local motel, and during the attempt to arrest them, Miranda Sage, 24, of Martinsburg, was charged with obstructing, deputies said. She was released after posting bond.

Police seek information on Sunnyway Foods burglary

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police and Franklin County Crime Solvers are seeking information about a Christmas Day burglary at Sunnyway Foods at 49 Warm Spring Road.

The supermarket was entered through the roof between Dec. 24 at 11 p.m. and Dec. 25 at 3 a.m., police said. Once inside, the thief or thieves pried open the safe and removed a large amount of cash, police said.

Crime Solvers is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person or people responsible. Anyone with information may call police at 717-264-5161 or Crime Solvers at 717-263-3000.

Callers to Crime Solvers may remain anonymous and still be eligible for a reward for information about this or other crimes.

Man charged in theft from FSK mall

FREDERICK, Md. -- A Walkersville. Md., man was charged with theft Thursday after a pursuit by police and security personnel at Francis Scott Key Mall, Maryland State Police said in a news release.

George Philip O'Conner, 18, was charged with one count of theft and one count of theft scheme, police said.

Sears loss prevention personnel contacted the police at about 1:52 p.m. and reported that a man left the store without paying for a Craftsman nail gun, the department said.

When confronted by Sears security staff in the parking lot, the man was forced to drop the nail gun during a brief struggle in which his jacket was pulled off, police said. He then fled across the parking lot and across Spectrum Drive, police said. Sears security and a state trooper pursued him and found him posing as a shopper in the nearby Office Depot store, police said.

He was arrested without incident, police said.

Man faces charges in sex acts with underage girl

SCOTLAND, Pa. -- A 46-year-old Chambersburg man faces charges related to sexual acts with a girl less than 13 years old, Pennsylvania State Police said in a news release.

Anthony Glen Wright, of 2982 Constellation Drive, was charged with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated incident assault and indecent assault, police said.

Police said the incidents occurred from 1998 through 2006 in a home in Greene Township.

Child endangerment charges filed against Pa. man

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- A Chambersburg man faces child endangerment charges in connection with a Nov. 12 incident involving an infant, Pennsylvania State Police said in a news release.

Justin William Preisler, 22, of 1564 Gsell Drive, was charged with endangering the welfare of children, police said.

Pa. State Police respond to calls

Pennsylvania State Police have responded to the following incidents, according to news releases:

On Thursday:

o At 5:55 a.m., a crash was reported on U.S. 522 at Old U.S. 30 in McConnellsburg. No one was injured, but a driver was cited for a traffic violation.

o At 1 p.m., retail theft was reported at a Giant grocery store in McConnellsburg. A 31-year-old Hustontown, Pa. man was charged.

On Jan. 3:

o At 3 a.m., theft from a motor vehicle was reported in the parking lot of United Methodist Church at 360 Saint Thomas-Edenville Rd. A .22-caliber long rifle and PSE bow were stolen.
