RIPPON, W.Va. - Rosetta Lee Thomas, 79, of Rippon, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, at her home.

Born March 30, 1929, in Rippon, she was the daughter of the late Frank Thomas and Gertrude L. Payne Thomas.

She was a member of Kingdom Life Cathedral, where she served as an usher, senior choir member and missionary. She also served as second Episcopal diocese president for the ushers, supported the King's Apostle Church World Ministries and was the first coordinator and trainer of the junior ushers.

She is survived by one daughter, Trudy G. Doleman of Rippon; two sons, James W. Butler and Alonza M. Butler, both of Rippon; one brother, Robert M. Thomas of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews, including, Anthony V. Thomas Sr. of Bunker Hill, W.Va., whom she raised; and cousins.

She was preceded in death by one son, Alan J. Thomas; seven sisters, Grace, Mamie, Parthenia, Gladys, Ollie, Onetta and Elsie; and six brothers, Benjamin, James, Clifford, Alan, William and Ralph.


A memorial service will be Sunday at 6 p.m. at Sylvannah Praise, Worship and Healing Center in Rippon. Pastor Lawrence E. Wilson Jr. will officiate.

A Celebration of Life will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Kingdom Life Cathedral in Ranson, W.Va., where visitation will be from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Bishop Sterling V. Porter III will officiate.

Arrangements are by Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town, W.Va.
