HANOVER, Pa. - Dorothy Savanna Mandilla Wentz Becker, 90, of Hanover, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at Gettysburg (Pa.) Lutheran Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born June 2, 1918, in Hanover, she was the daughter of the late Paul Irvin and Marie Catherine Crumrine Wentz.

Her husband, Ray Kenneth Becker, died March 25, 1985.

She graduated from Hanover High School in 1935.

She was co-owner of the Carlisle Street Tavern until 1985.

She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, where she served as Sunday school teacher and volunteered for various committees. She also was a member of the church and bell choirs.

She was a member of B.P.O.E. Lodge 763 of Hanover, Daughters of the American Revolution and Hanover Community Singers, and was a bridge club member.


She is survived by two sons, Paul T. Becker Sr. of Hanover and Randall R. Becker of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one sister, Nancy J. Sandruck of Hanover; one brother, Robert P. Wentz of Hanover; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn C. Little and Charlotte M. Leonard; and one brother, Irvin J. C. Wentz.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Hanover. The Rev. Kirk Griffin will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hanover.

The visitation will be Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the church parlor.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are by Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown.
