CALABASH, N.C. - Marvin Lewis Lowrey, 83, of Calabash, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born July 20, 1925, in Cogan Station, Pa., he was the son of the late Donald Lowrey and Mattie Kramm Lowrey.

He was a Christian.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mildred Aileen Noske Lowrey; three daughters, Patricia Beall of Woodsboro, Md., Cindy Cissel of Greenbelt, Md., and Jan Broom of Calabash; two sons, Steve Lowrey of Shepherdstown, W.Va., and Mike Lowrey of Martinsburg; three brothers, Foster Lowrey, Darland Lowrey and Edwin Lowrey; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn L. Stackhouse and Thelma L. Barrett; and one brother, Sterling Lowrey.

A memorial service will be Sunday, Jan. 18, at 3 p.m. at Rock Spring Church, Kearneysville, W.Va. Pastor Mike Lowery will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Rock Spring Church, Building Fund, 114 Poor Farm Road, Kearneysville, WV 25430.
