WILLIAMSPORT - Elizabeth L. "Betty" Cummings of Williamsport, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009, at her cottage at Homewood.

Born May 18, 1921, in Fargo, N.D., she was the daughter of the late John H. And Ethel Canniff Pannebaker.

Her husband, Austin M. Cummings, preceded her in death. They were married in 1942.

She graduated from North Dakota State University with a degree in English and education.

She was a member of Hedgesville (W.Va.) United Methodist Church, where she served on many committees, as a Sunday school teacher and as a member of the choir.

She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, Hagerstown Community Choir and the Mountaineer Club at Homewood. She voluntereed with Meals on Wheels and at City Hospital.

She is survived by five children, Thomas Cummings of Falling Waters, W.Va., Michael Cummings of Millstone, N.J., Cathy Ellis and Cori Buseman, both of Morgantown, W.Va., and Carol Otto of Stafford, Va.; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Roger J. Cummings.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Hedgesville United Methodist Church. The Revs. Barry Dillon and Terri Cofiell will officiate. Burial will be in Hedgesville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home.
